Cultural Collaborations

The BBC recently launched an exciting new series called Collaboration Culture in which 14 artists from 9 different countries are paired up to make exciting new artwork. The artists come from a variety of disciplines: music, visual arts, performing arts, design, cuisine… Episode 6 (to be aired on August 4, 2012) will feature Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio hosting Michelin starred Spanish Pastry Chef Jordi Roca on an exploration and re-invention of what can be done with the potato. This photo is of Berlin-based conceptual artist Christian Jankowski making a film of his visit to Dubai hosted by the artist Rami Farook… while blindfolded!

The whole concept of the series is quite interesting because rather than playing on competition, the BBC is putting forward the idea of collaboration and showing how artists from differing cultural backgrounds can come to cover to create amazing things together. These unconventional pairings certainly are getting the creative juices flowing and pushing exciting new boundaries. What if this is what peace was like?

Check out Collaboration Culture on the BBC each weekend from 30 June on BBC World News, Saturdays at 00:30 or 07:30, and Sundays at 12:30 or 18:30 (all times GMT).
